Preserving and promoting the culture of the city’s distinct neighborhoods is paramount to spurring revitalization and reimagine what downtown can be. Each of our parks and green spaces has its own history and a unique community that it serves. Manning’s job has been to understand the history of place and collaborate with residents and stakeholders to determine how these spaces can best serve the public going forward. Manning’s planning team includes landscape architect SMM, Community Engagement Specialist Burns Innovation Group, engineers Julien Engineers and Salas O’Brien, and historian Richard Campanella for a collaborative multi-disciplinary effort. Our approach includes an inventory of existing parks and open spaces, public outreach, and the development of priority projects, with the goal of activating each space as a unique place within Downtown. The Downtown Development District is forward-thinking in its plan to develop the District’s parks and open space into iconic, interactive, and inclusive public spaces as a catalyst for an increasingly vibrant heart of the city.
